Celebrating 25 years of GEM Connection.

Our Anniversary show on 10th June 2023 brought together all the happy memories of the last 25 years.
At St John Houghton school in Kirk Hallam the team were busy preparing for an evening of entertainment on a hot sunny afternoon. The hall thankfully had aircon and all the acts were helping set up the risers and decorate the room. ' Then after our pre show riser time we were all ready for the curtain to go up.

The audience started to fill the hall for the sell out show.  Cecily met our dignitaries, The Mayor of Ilkeston, and Sue Ranson the Chair of LABBS, and they were seated in the best seats in the house.

It was time for the ‘house lights to go down’ and ‘the doors to be closed’! It was showtime!

To open the show the amazing Lisa Dengate our MC for the night, eloquently welcomed everyone, then the singing began.

A mixture of new songs with older polecats were sung with interjections of GEMs' history and anecdotes by Lisa. After a rousing applause four of our lovely GEMs who sing as Ruby Tuesday took to the stage for a perfect set of quartet tunes. To close the first half The Grand Central Chorus rounded off in style with four of their favourites.

The interval provided the audience with a break for refreshments and a chat with old and new friends alike. Tickets for the grand raffle went down a storm. Now it was time for the second half.

Midnight Train, the superb male voice quartet, opened the set before The Grand Central Chorus returned with more delights from their repertoire.

Now it was time for the finale!

Willkommen. Bienvenue Welcome to the Kit Kat Club!

Transporting the audience back to 1930s Berlin and the hedonistic Weimer Republic haven.
The iconic songs of the epic Cabaret show provided a showstopping performance to round off an amazing evening.

Our LABBS Chair Sue Ranson then addresses everyone and presented three very special long service awards for 35 years with the organisation, To Rachael, Berni and Jenny. Then there was just time to give everyone a go at singing the rousing polecat Bohemian Rapsody.

When the show is over and the lights have faded, what next…….

The AFTERGLOW (enough said)
