2009 Wedding of the Year
In September 2009, Kim, one of our younger members was married to Ed. We
were all very proud of her, sang to the guests of course and boogied on down
at the disco! Don’t they look gorgeous?
2009 September Joint show
In September 2009 our joint show with The Grand Central Chorus and medal
winning guests The Jazz Firm, Monkey Magic and Miss Demeanour was a huge

2009 March European Convention, Holland
Hot on the tails of our 2008 Silver Medal winning performance at National
Competition Gem Connection competed as first-timers in the European
Barbershop Convention.

Silver medal at national competition
Gem Connection members were thrilled and VERY proud to be awarded
the Silver Medal for their performance of Happy Feet and If I Give
My Heart To You at the LABBS Convention in Harrogate on November 1st

2008 Gem Connection
Celebrate 10 years of Singing, Harmony and Friendship
Gem Connection celebrated their 10th birthday at the beginning of May, the
chorus being formed in 1998. Our name, incidentally, is derived from the
fact that the chorus members come from the (Great) East Midlands area, and
they connect with people through their singing.

2008 Gem Connection Get
Involved In the Race for Life
On a
hot day on the May 20th, most of the chorus joined thousands of
runners in Darley Park, Derby to take part in the Annual Race For Life to
raise funds for Cancer Research. Every one in the chorus had various
experiences of the disease, either personally or indirectly through family
and friends.

2008 Annual Chorus Dinner
At
the beginning of February the chorus put on their glad rags for their annual
event to dine in style. The meal was fabulous and the company and fun even
better. After the meal we sang for our supper, the staff coming out from the
kitchen to enjoy the impromptu entertainment.

Convention 2007
On
October 27th we were delighted to be placed 4th at our
annual LABBS competition in Bournemouth. We celebrated with a fantastic
party at our hotel that evening, every member participating in a Royal
Variety Show just for ourselves and our supporters. We entertained, laughed
and sang until the early hours and all agreed that this was our best party
yet!

2007 Derby Arts Festival
On May 12th 2007, Gem Connection were the proud winners of no less
than four cups at the Derby Arts Festival.

2006
Ladies’ Barbershop Convention, Harrogate
GEM Connection competed in the annual Barbershop
Convention in Harrogate on November 11th this year and were proud to be
placed 6th out of 21 choruses, receiving their highest scores ever.

2005 & 2006 The Weakest Link
Three members of GEM Connection entered the Weakest Link
TV show in 2005 and 2006 in order to raise funds for the chorus. Although
none were successful in doing so they all had great fun and enjoyed the
experience. Towards the end of 2006 all were invited back to a special show.

2005 USA Trip to Buffalo, New York
In September 2005 we were the guests of the Buffalo
Gateway Ladies Barbershop Chorus. These wonderful women and their families
hosted us in their homes and planned a fabulous week of outings, visits,
social events and singing, culminating in a joint show entitled ’One Voice’,
at which we were received with great acclaim. This was the most exciting
event ever for the members of GEM Connection. We look forward to returning
the hospitality of the Gateway Chorus in the future.

2005 Calendar Girls
As members of LABBS we were asked to submit a chorus
photo to represent August in a Barbershop calendar. We had great fun doing
the photo shoot.

2004 Ladies’ Barbershop Convention,
Harrogate
Gem Connection competed against 38 other LABBS choruses in Harrogate on
Saturday 13th November 2004 and were placed fifth best chorus in Britain.

2003 Holland
In September 2003 GEM members, together with the Grand Central Men’s Chorus
from our local area were guests of two Dutch Barbershop choruses from Ede.
We enjoyed a weekend full of song, Dutch culture and hospitality culminating
in a sell out show.
